Mail Theft in Washington that Included Several Ballots
Police in Sammamish, a city just east of Seattle, said that multiple mail ballots were stolen from mailboxes and placed in an outgoing mailbox or discarded.
The Sammamish Police Department was informed by the post office “that unopened or incomplete ballots have been inappropriately placed in out-going mail bins,” the city of Sammamish said Friday.
Police said mail customers also reported garbage bags full of mail discarded on the roadside, which included some ballots.
Around 90 percent of the ballots were distributed by the postal service in Sammamish on Thursday, and the discarded mail was discovered on Friday morning while carriers were carrying other parcels.
Police are attempting to send the ballots back to their intended beneficiaries.
In recent months, news of mail voting problems have piled up as a record number of Americans are are expected to vote remotely due to fears about the China virus and related lockout measures that make it more difficult for in-person voting.
